Privacy & Data Collection

When you fill out the form on our website, we collect your name and email address as specified. We use this information for marketing or lead generation purposes. We never sell your data. You can request to have your information deleted at any time by emailing aloha@dotkine.com. We use Formspree to manage our forms. We do not use cookies on our website. We do use Google Analytics to better understand site traffic and improve the experience. No personally identifiable information (PII) is logged. Google Analytics tracks general metrics such as time spent on site, pages visited, device and browser type, and geographic region. Though we are proudly based in Hawai‘i and rooted in local values, we work with businesses across the globe. We strive to uphold international privacy regulations, including but not limited to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act), and PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act).

Intellectual Property

All code and technical infrastructure created by Dot Kine remain the intellectual property of Dot Kine unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. Clients retain full rights to their copy, branding, and media assets provided by them. Web copy written by Dot Kine may be transferred to the client upon final payment.

Fees & Payment Terms
-
A 50% deposit of the startup fee is due upon contract signing. The remaining 50% is due at the time of site launch. Hosting fees begin on the 1st or 15th of the month following launch, whichever is sooner. Payment plans are available as monthly recurring or annual billing at a discounted rate. Payments overdue by more than 5 days incur a 20% late fee. Sites may be taken offline until payment is received.

Site Maintenance & Updates

Monthly hosting includes routine site maintenance such as updating web copy, adding informational pages, performing industry-standard security updates, and making minor layout adjustments. Full design overhauls or major visual redesigns fall outside this scope and may incur additional costs. Content updates do not include long form writing (e.g. blog posts) unless a separate content retainer is in place. Complex features and third-party integrations may also require a custom quote and timeline, to be evaluated and discussed in advance.

Service Availability & Downtime

We aim for 99.9% uptime. Scheduled maintenance may occur during off-peak hours. Unexpected downtime caused by third-party providers (e.g., hosting platform, CDN, DNS) is outside our control, but we’ll always do our best to respond quickly and resolve issues.

Client Responsibilities

Clients agree to provide content, feedback, approvals, and access credentials in a timely manner. Delays in response or delivery may impact the project timeline. We’ll always communicate early if something’s holding us back.

Termination & Cancellation

To cancel services, email aloha@dotkine.com and let us know when you’d like your site taken offline. No refunds will be provided for the current billing cycle, but your site will remain live until the end of that period. We’re happy to assist with handoff or provide an archive of your site if needed.

Portfolio Rights

Dot Kine reserves the right to showcase completed work, including screenshots and summaries, in its public portfolio and marketing materials. If you prefer not to be featured, just let us know in writing.

Limitations of Liability

We build with care and follow best practices, but we can’t guarantee the site will be 100% free of bugs or future vulnerabilities. We’re not liable for downtime, data loss, or issues caused by third-party providers or user-side changes. We’re your digital partner, not your legal one.

Communication & Availability

We’re flexible: email, text, phone call, whatever’s most convenient for you. We can also use messaging apps like WhatsApp, especially if you’re international. Video calls are cool too. We typically respond within 1–2 business days, Monday through Friday (Hawai‘i Standard Time), excluding holidays. We like to keep things painless and work around your schedule, so whatever works for you, works for us. If we’ll be on vacation or PTO, we’ll always give you a heads-up and let you know if there might be a delay in our replies.
